Who can be called a genius?

From time to time we hear about some schoolboy who is considered a genius. Or you can read in the papers about how someone has done something so exceptional that they call him a genius. And while studying history, of course, we had to meet many famous people whom we recognize as geniuses. And what is the exact meaning of the word "genius" and what needs to be done to become one?

This word is used to refer to those who have the highest intelligence. The only way to recognize a genius is to know what he did. There may be geniuses who have never done anything outstanding and never achieved fame, although their IQ may be the same as that of recognized geniuses.

It also happens that the achievements of an unrecognized genius are not recognized by average standards. Many of those who are considered geniuses today died in poverty, believing themselves to be failures because their work was not recognized during their lifetime. Genius is not the same as talent.

In order to be considered talented, it is enough for a person to perform a particular job especially well. This means that he is able to acquire the relevant skills fairly quickly and easily. For example, a person may have a talent for playing the piano, skating, or drawing. But genius is more than talent. Genius usually gives the world something that we wouldn't get without it.

True, it must be said that a genius usually specializes in one area, for example, in chemistry, literature, music or art. But if the general intellectual abilities of such a person are not of an exceptional level, then he will be just a talent.

In our time, it is believed that a person is born a genius. Learning and chance bring out geniuses, but a true genius usually has the tenacity to work hard and strive to overcome obstacles that would stop other people.

 Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia:

Can cats really see in the dark?

No animal can see in complete darkness, but cat eyes are much more adapted to very low light conditions than the eyes of most animals.

The fact is that on the inner surface of the choroid of the cat's eye there is a shiny layer (tapetum, or mirror). It reflects light onto the retina and thereby enhances the light irritation of the visual cells, increasing their sensitivity in low light.

The same shiny layer causes the cat's eyes to seem to glow in almost complete darkness.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Universal wireless sensor node STEVAL-MKSBOX1V1 for the Internet of Things 26.01.2020

STMicroelectronics has released a new complete wireless device STEVAL-MKSBOX1V1, which is a set of various sensors, a battery and a wireless BLE interface in a matchbox-sized package.

STEVAL-MKSBOX1V1 not only allows you to measure many parameters - temperature, pressure, humidity, position in space, motion and sound, but also perform calculations thanks to the built-in ARM Cortex-M4 microcontroller with DSP and FPU (STM32L4R9) with ultra-low power consumption. To interact with a smartphone, a special ST BLE Sensor application is provided.

STEVAL-MKSBOX1V1 (SensorTile.box) is a ready-to-use wearable and wireless IoT platform that will help you build applications based on various sensors. The plastic case houses the SensorTile.box board and battery, while the ST BLE Sensor app is installed on a smartphone and connected via Bluetooth. You can develop your applications based on sensor measurements with parameter setting and special functions in Expert Mode. In this way, you can create wireless IoT devices and gadgets, bypassing the stage of classical programming.

Using the STM32 ODE open environment debugging interface, which includes a package of functions for processing sensor data with the participation of AI and neural network libraries, you can develop more complex firmware for the STM32L4 microcontroller.

SensorTile.box includes the following high precision sensors:

Temperature sensor (STTS751);
6-axis inertial MEMS (LSM6DSOX);
Tri-axis accelerometers (LIS2DW12 and LIS3DHH);
3-axis magnetometer (LIS2MDL);
Pressure sensor / altimeter / (LPS22HH);
Microphone/audio sensor (MP23ABS1);
Humidity sensor (HTS221).

Features of STEVAL-MKSBOX1V1:

Ready to work "out of the box";
Step counter;
"Wireless babysitter" based on Cloud AI computer analyzer;
Barometer/environment monitoring;
Control of movement of goods;
Vibration control;
Inclinometer and compass;
Parameter recorder.
