What is amnesia?

From time to time there are reports in the newspapers about people who have "forgotten" who they are. Such people do not remember anyone and nothing from their past, including their name. We say that such people suffer from amnesia.

We all experience negative emotions from time to time. We feel resentful, angry, frustrated or scared for some reason. When we experience emotional stress, we need to do something about it. For example, the simplest thing is to scream, blush, or break out in a cold sweat. In fact, such things happen against our will. These are considered normal reactions because they can happen to anyone.

But a person can respond to emotional stress in other ways. Instead of turning to face the problems that have unsettled him, he tries to act as if nothing bothers him. He "runs" from problems, thus "protecting" himself from emotional stress.

One type of such reaction is amnesia. A person simply behaves as if everything that disturbs and upsets him so much did not happen to him, but to someone else! He "forgets" his worries. Forgetting this, he forgets many other things related to his anxieties - including his name! A person simply cannot remember anything about his past.

But in the present, he can navigate quite normally. He lives and works like any other person, and may not attract anyone's attention. Sometimes a person suddenly, on his own, wakes up after amnesia. In many cases, however, the patient must be helped to recover by a psychiatrist. It is curious that after the amnesia passes, people do not remember anything that happened to them during it.

Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia:

How many states are there in the USA?

Formally - forty-six.

Virginia, Kentucky, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts are all officially Commonwealths.

The status does not give them any special constitutional powers. They simply chose that word for themselves at the end of the War of Independence (1775-1783), making it clear that they were no longer colonies answerable to the English crown, but were becoming states governed "by the common consent of the people."

Virginia (named after the Virgin Queen Elizabeth I (Virgin - virgin, virgin (English).)) was one of the first thirteen American states (hence the thirteen red stripes on the US state flag) and was the first to proclaim itself the Commonwealth in 1776.

Pennsylvania and Massachusetts were not long in coming, and Kentucky, originally a county within Virginia, declared itself a Commonwealth in 1792.

Interestingly, there are two more Commonwealths similar to the American ones outside the borders of the United States. In July 1952, the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico adopted its own constitution, declaring itself the Commonwealth of the United States. The same thing was done in 1975 by the Northern Mariana Islands, a state in the western part of the Pacific Ocean. Neither of these two states is part of the United States.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>
