Why was Alectryon, servant of Ares, turned into a rooster?

The lawful spouse of the goddess of love Aphrodite was the god of fire and blacksmithing Hephaestus - the most skilled craftsman among the gods and the ugliest of them. Aphrodite gave birth to Hephaestus three children - Phobos, Deimos and Harmony - but their true father was Ares, a slender, frantic, always drunk and pugnacious god of war.

Hephaestus did not know anything about treason until Helios opened his eyes, once catching lovers who had lingered in bed for too long in a pleasant pastime. Angry Hephaestus, secluded in the forge, forged a web-thin, but surprisingly strong net, which he imperceptibly attached between the ceiling and the foot of the bed. Then he announced to his wife that he was going to rest for a while on his beloved island of Lemnos. As soon as her husband was out of sight, Aphrodite sent for Ares, who did not take long to wait.

The next morning, the lovers found themselves lying entangled in a net - naked and helpless. Returning Hephaestus decided to show all the gods how he was dishonored. He declared that he would not release his wife until her adoptive father Zeus returned all the wedding gifts he received for Aphrodite. The gods rushed to stare at the embarrassed Aphrodite, and the goddesses, out of delicacy, remained at home. However, Zeus refused to return the wedding gifts and generally interfere in this family quarrel, saying that Hephaestus was foolish to expose his wife's infidelity.

Lovers got freedom only thanks to Poseidon. He promised Hephaestus to arrange for Ares to pay the ransom, but in the end Ares also refused to pay. Hephaestus was left without a ransom, which, however, he did not insist on, because he was madly in love with Aphrodite and did not have the slightest desire to divorce her.

Most sadly, this whole story ended for Alectrion, the servant of Ares, who stood guard during the meetings of his master with Aphrodite, who was supposed to wake up lovers before morning. It was because of the fact that Alectrion once overslept, Helios found Ares and Aphrodite in close embrace. As punishment, Alectrion was turned into a rooster.

What wood was the Kon-Tiki raft made of?

The Kon-Tiki raft, on which Thor Heyerdahl and his companions crossed the Pacific Ocean in 1947, was built from balsa (balsa) wood, common in the tropical rainforests of Central and South America.

The balsa tree easily renews on cuttings, grows quickly and reaches maturity by the age of 5. It has a light (lighter than cork in the dried state), very durable wood, used in aircraft construction as a sound and heat insulating material.

Since ancient times, rafts and dugout shuttles have been made from balsa tree trunks.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. next generation xbox 22.05.2013

The control of the new Xbox, including games, watching movies and TV, is carried out entirely with voice commands and gestures - the remote is no longer needed. And the new Kinect controller, according to Microsoft, is so accurate that it can pick up the player's heartbeat. Xbox One is designed not only as a game console, but also as a device to control the TV to which it is connected. Control is done entirely with voice commands and gestures - even turning on is done with a voice command. This concept completely eliminates the need to use a remote control.

One of the hosts of the event, Yusuf Mehdi, turned on the console with the phrase "Xbox On!", The console recognized his voice and automatically opened his personal page. This opportunity is available to every member of the family. To start watching TV, you need to say "Xbox, watch TV", and to return to the game - "game". To launch Internet Explorer - "go to Internet Explorer", to go to the movie - "watch movie". Powerful hardware, including 8 GB of RAM, switches instantly.

At the same time, "communication" with the console is carried out using natural phrases, Mehdi emphasized. It also showed another way to exit from watching a movie - with a gesture, as if the user takes something in front of him with both hands and puts it aside.

Connected to the Internet, Xbox One offers a TV program that is also navigated using voice commands. The user, for example, can tell the console which channel he wants to turn on. Voice commands are also supported in TV viewing mode, such as when watching sports, to display information. Xbox One has support for Skype. You can make voice and video calls using your existing equipment—TV, console, and Kinect. At the same time, simultaneous work with several functions is supported: for example, you can receive a call and watch a movie at the same time or watch a movie and start Internet Explorer.

The console runs on three operating systems, Microsoft spokesman Marc Whitten said: Xbox OS, designed for gaming; the second system, on the Windows kernel, and the third system, which links the first and second. The graphical interface resembles that of Windows 8. The console is equipped with a processor with 5 billion transistors (the company did not specify the name of the processor and the number of cores), a built-in Blu-ray drive, support for Wi-Fi and USB 3.0, as well as two HDMI connectors - input and output . The device contains a 500 GB hard drive.

Along with the game console, the Kinect game controller has been updated. Its appearance has changed significantly, a long microphone is located below.

While reading its surroundings, the new Kinect processes 2 GB of data every second, Whiten said. More accurate skeletal recognition is achieved by using a 1080p camera compared to VGA in the first generation system. "It can even recognize your heartbeat," a Microsoft spokesperson said.

Kinect can also track the movement of a mechanical wireless controller, which has also been updated. For example, with its help, the user can open or close hatches in the game in space by raising his hands up or down. In other words, the standard Xbox controller has now become a kind of analogue of the PlayStation Move.
