I will not die, but I will live, because I sowed the seed of the word

Amulkasim Ferdowsi
Amulkasim Ferdowsi

Phraseologism: I will not die, but I will live, because I sowed the seed of the word.

Meaning: About creative heritage.

Origin: The words of the great Persian poet Amulkasim Firdousi (940-1020 or 1030), which he said about his epic poem "Shah-name" ("The Book of Kings"), which became his life's work. Apparently, Firdowsi was well known for classical Roman poetry, since his words about his poem obviously echo the well-known lines of Horace ("I erected a monument to myself not made by hands"). In particular, Ferdowsi writes: “I have erected a high castle with my poem, which neither wind nor rain will crush. Years will pass over this book, and every smart person will read it, I will not die, I will live, because I sowed the word seed ..."

Random phraseology:

Nothing will come out of nothing.

Meaning:

One should not expect any results if no efforts have been made to achieve them, in other words, zero labor (investments of any kind) - zero results (jokingly ironic)

Origin:

From Latin: Ex nihilo nihil fit. The words of the ancient Roman poet-philosopher Lucretius (98-55 BC), contained in his work "The Nature of Things", in the 1st and 2nd books. The very same idea was borrowed by him from the ancient authors (Epicurus, Melissa, Empedocles), who said that "nothing can come of the non-existent." There is a variant of this expression in the work "Discourse about oneself" by the Roman thinker, Emperor Marcus Aurelius (121-180): "Nothing comes out of nothing, just as nothing passes into nothing." Often this expression is found in lapidary form: "De nihilo nihil", that is, "out of nothing - nothing."

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. Social networks are integrating with TV 15.09.2012

Studies show that users watch TV while using the Internet up to three and a half hours a day. At the same time, 42% of the adult population of the UK discuss on social networks the TV programs they have watched. Digital content providers are always looking to increase entertainment, so the convergence of web and TV is an important step. Users will be able to watch TV shows, chat with friends - all depending on the device used.

An ambitious new European project called NoTube is based on cloud technologies and aims to unite the digital and television broadcasting industries. Its distinctive feature is the connection between information about the viewer - for example, about his preferences, social network accounts, contacts - with his favorite TV shows. The data may belong to different repositories, but all of them will be interconnected, according to established industry standards. The developed prototype provides effective content filtering and convenient personalized search. The system can be deployed on any media platform. The NoTube Application Programming Interface can be used to create new web applications and broadcast systems.

"We're trying to develop a solution that gives viewers choice and flexibility," says Dan Brickley, one of the project's lead researchers. "The concept of linked data has allowed the NoTube team to set the benchmark for online publishing. will give viewers exactly what they want to see most, and will also work across devices and languages."

NoTube has found a way to create new social connections through TV viewing. BBC R&D led the development of personalized recommendation methods based on the social activity of viewers, as well as built-in technologies that make it easy to discuss and share what they see, while maintaining privacy. This led to the creation of the so-called. N-screens - web applications that help small groups of people in real time to jointly choose a TV channel, view and discuss programs. The project also considers the possibility of using a smartphone as a remote control. The key point here is that we are talking about the connection of two different data systems, and the functionality will not be limited by the type of devices used.

"NoTube will help people choose what to watch and share, find more information about programs and discuss them more competently," says Brickley.
