What is the atmospheric pressure on Venus?

The atmosphere of Venus is 96,5 percent (by volume) carbon dioxide, with the remaining 3,5 percent nitrogen, with traces of oxygen, carbon monoxide, argon, sulfuric anhydride, and water vapour.

The main components of this atmosphere are much heavier than the main components of the Earth's atmosphere. Therefore, the pressure on the surface of Venus is much higher than on the surface of the Earth, and is about 90 atmospheres (close to the pressure in terrestrial conditions at a depth of 900 meters under water).

The force of such pressure would simply flatten an astronaut who ended up on Venus.

Who ordered to build another wall around the besieged city for their own protection?

In 52 BC. e. Julius Caesar's troops laid siege to the city of Alesia, where an army of Gauls rebelling against Roman rule took refuge under the command of Vercingetorix. Caesar counted on a long siege and, foreseeing the threat of Gaulish reinforcements, ordered the construction of another wall around the entire perimeter at some distance from the city walls of Alesia. In a decisive battle, the Gauls attacked the Romans located between the two walls from both sides, but failed, and shortly thereafter Gaul finally submitted to Rome.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. Glasses will always be clean 31.07.2003

Japanese engineers from the Tokyo Industrial University have learned how to make glasses that never fog up and practically do not get dirty.

After a complex process of treatment with carbon dioxide, an ultra-thin (several microns) film of fluorine molecules forms on plastic lenses. It serves as a durable protection against drops of moisture and all kinds of pollution, including fingerprints.

According to experts, such lenses will not fog up even in the bath. The developers, however, admit that, at least at the first stage of commercial implementation, glasses with such lenses will be significantly more expensive than usual ones.
