And one in the field warrior

Mastet G.O.
Mastet G.O.

Phraseologism: And one warrior in the field.

Meaning: Encouragement of someone's personal efforts (joking).

Origin: The title of the novel (1886) by the Russian populist writer Grigory Alexandrovich Machtet (1852-1901), which is a polemical version of the well-known Russian proverb "One man is not a warrior." The novel (originally titled From the Irrevocable Past) is devoted to the relationship between peasants and landlords in the Russian countryside. In Soviet times, the expression again became very popular thanks to the novel "And One Warrior in the Field" (1956) by the Soviet Ukrainian writer Yuri Dold-Mikhailik (1903-1966). The novel was first published in Russian in 1957 and was repeatedly reprinted (only until 1960, 5 times in Ukrainian, 10 in Russian). In 1959, the author, together with G. Tkachenko, wrote a play of the same name, which was staged in many theaters of the country and filmed.

Random phraseology:

Monkey labor.

Meaning:

Clueless process of work, useless efforts, vain efforts (contempt.).

Origin:

The expression goes back to the fable by I. A. Krylov "Monkey" (1811). It is about a monkey who is envious of a plowman, whose work is approved by others. The monkey, wanting to show labor zeal, began to roll a big block of wood, but she did not wait for praise, since there was no benefit from her "work".

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. Wi-Fi for pregnant women 23.07.2015

According to popular belief, radiation from Wi-Fi devices can have a negative impact on the human body. The Chinese company Qihoo has made an attempt to neutralize possible threats with the help of a new "pregnancy mode", which can reduce the intensity of radiation by 70%. The target audience for the innovation, Qihoo CEO Zhou Huni, called pregnant women and, in general, everyone who fears for their health.

Xiaomi, another Chinese tech giant, reacted to competitors' actions by posting an accusatory post on Weibo: "The so-called 'pregnancy mode' is just a publicity stunt. Using Wi-Fi is safe, you can be sure of it."

The World Health Organization also did not confirm Qihoo's concerns about the health of mothers and their unborn children. A report posted on the WHO website states that, according to recent studies, exposure to low-frequency electromagnetic waves does not carry the risk of possible miscarriages, pregnancy complications and the occurrence of various diseases in newborns.

The debate about the safe use of Wi-Fi has not subsided since 2011 after large-scale studies were carried out to study the effect of technology on the cells of a living organism. For example, it has been proven that if Wi-Fi is working in the immediate vicinity of a man during the exposure of the ejaculate, the mobility of his spermatozoa will decrease by 20%, and damage to their DNA will increase by 2,5 times. Before that, it was argued that Wi-Fi does not cause any harm to human health.
