Seven seals

Bible
Bible

Phraseologism: For seven seals.

Meaning: Something beyond understanding.

Origin: It goes back to the biblical turnover "a book with seven seals" - a symbol of secret knowledge that is inaccessible to the uninitiated until seven seals are removed from it, III from the prophetic New Testament book "The Revelations of St. John the Theologian". "And I saw in the right hand of the One sitting on the throne a book written inside and out, sealed with seven seals. And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice: "Who is worthy to open this book and remove its seals?" Heaven, neither on earth, nor under earth, open this book and look into it. The Lamb, who “was slain and redeemed us to God with his blood, opened the seals from the book. After the removal of six seals, the seal of God was placed on the inhabitants of Israel, according to which they were accepted as true followers of the Lord. After the opening of the seventh seal, the Lamb told John to eat the book: "... it will be bitter in your womb, but in your mouth it will be sweet as honey" in order to tell about the future renewal of the whole world and dispel the fears of believers about the future of Christianity, on which Jews, Gentiles and false teachers are on all sides."

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Car tires pollute the world's oceans with microplastics 18.11.2018

Car tires and brake pads produce harmful microplastics that can be found in the air and underwater.

The scientists analyzed more than 500 fine particles extracted from the air around three busy German motorways and found that the vast majority - 89 percent of the microparticles - are shed from car tires, brake systems and the roads themselves. Collectively, these particles are classified by researchers as microplastics, although they include materials other than plastic.

These particles are blown away by the wind and washed away by rain into waterways leading to the ocean, where they can harm aquatic animals and fragile ecosystems, said environmental scientist Renaud Gier of the University of Pennsylvania and lead author of the study. Previous studies have shown that about 30 percent of the volume of microplastic particles that pollute the oceans, lakes and rivers come from tire wear.

"We all want to reduce CO2 emissions from car exhaust," Gier says. "But you can't stop tire wear." Exacerbate traffic congestion. The researchers found that vehicles traveling at a constant speed, without constantly using the brakes, produced fewer harmful particles.

Since some materials, including synthetic rubber, get covered in dust and other tougher pieces of debris, they are not always easy to identify. The researchers figured out what each particle was by examining them under a scanning electron microscope and performing chemical analysis.
