Phraseologism: Iron curtain.

Meaning: On a policy driven by ideological struggle and aimed at isolating a country or group of countries from external relations and influences (disapproved).

Origin: This expression was given life by a fixture previously used in the theater - an iron curtain, which, in order to protect the auditorium from fire, was lowered onto the stage in the event of a fire on it.
