Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. Emotion sensors for smart electronics 29.02.2024

Engineers from South Korea have unveiled an innovative portable device that can integrate robots into society based on their ability to adequately perceive and respond to human emotions. The new device, developed by a team at the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), is a flexible, stretchable system attached to the face that uses skin friction and vibration monitoring to assess a person's emotional state and even generate their own energy.

The new development demonstrates the importance of integrating emotional perception into wearable devices, which can lead to the development of more effective systems for interaction between people and technology. The autonomous ability to recognize emotions opens up new horizons for improving the quality of life and communication in the modern world.

The wearable device includes thin, transparent, flexible sensors that are placed around the eyes, jaw and back of the head. These individually customizable sensors make up a system trained to recognize human emotions by analyzing skin tension patterns and vocal vibrations.

One of the key features of the system is its ability to generate energy through the stretching of the sensor material, providing battery life throughout the day. The first of its kind, this device is fully autonomous in emotion recognition and can additionally be applied in virtual reality to provide recommendations based on the user's emotional state.

The new product is part of a broader effort to create technologies that are more sensitive to human emotions and could find applications in a variety of areas, including medical care and improving everyday interactions between humans and machines. Developments in this area open up new prospects for the convergence of human and machine intelligence, making communication between them more natural and harmonious.
