If two people do the same thing, then it's not the same thing.

Publius Terence Afr
Publius Terence Afr

Phraseologism: If two people do the same thing, it is not the same thing.

Meaning: 1. What one easily gets away with is forgiven, another is charged with guilt. 2. About the different quality of the same work performed by different people.

Origin: From Latin: Si duo faciunt idem, pop est idem. From the comedy "The Brothers" by the Roman comedian writer Terentius (Publius Terentius Afr, c. 195-159 BC), which says that if two commit the same offense, then for one it sometimes goes unpunished, and for others, no. Later, this expression was rethought and served as the source of another aphorism: "If two people say the same thing, then it is not the same thing," in the sense that everyone interprets words and concepts in their own way.

Random phraseology:

And my Matryona became neither Pava nor Crow.

Meaning:

About a person who abandoned his usual way of life, his business, his roots and could not find himself in a new life, a new field of activity, in a different social environment (jokingly ironic).

Origin:

From the fable "The Crow" (1825) by I. A. Krylov (1769-1844). In it, the poet speaks of a crow that adorned its tail with peacock feathers and "went arrogantly walking with Pavami." But the Peacocks (peacocks) pecked her and drove her away: "And her undertakings ended with the fact // That she lagged behind the Ravens, // But she did not stick to the Peacocks." In addition to the usual “morality” with which the poet begins this fable, he illustrates the last and everyday example: “I will explain this fable to you by reality. Matryona, the daughter of a merchant, the thought fell. for a baron. What happened? The new relatives prick her eyes with a reproach that she was born a bourgeois, And the old one because she tangled herself with the nobles: and my Matryona became neither Pava nor Crow.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Salt ban 24.07.2002

In France, it was decided to fight with table salt - it is believed that it can contribute to the development of hypertension.

In addition to the salt from the salt shaker, which many grab at without even trying the dish, every Frenchman eats an average of 8 grams of sodium chloride per day, which comes with various finished products. It is advisable to reduce this intake by 1-3 grams.

One of the main sources of salt in the diet is bread. A law has been proposed to the National Assembly that would first standardize the salt content of bread at no more than 24 grams per kilogram of flour, and then reduce the allowable level by 5 percent annually. In five years, the permitted salt content will drop to 18 grams per kilogram.

Considering that 1,58-1,72 kilograms of dough is obtained from a kilogram of flour, monitoring the implementation of the standard will not be an easy task. However, French bakers do not object to this burden.
