I have an idea and I think it

"38 parrots"
"38 parrots"

Phraseologism: I have an idea and I think it.

Meaning: About a problem that requires serious analysis.

Origin: From the cartoon "38 Parrots" (1976) directed by I. Ufimtsev. The words of the Boa constrictor in a conversation with the Monkey: “- And now what are you doing? - I have a thought ... a thought ... And I think it. - What is a thought? - Measure your height. - Can I think it too? "

Random phraseology:

Lieutenant Kizhe.

Meaning:

1. About a ridiculous mistake that can lead to serious, far-reaching consequences (joking). 2. About a mythical figure who by mistake (misunderstanding, absurd coincidence, etc.) is considered to be a real person (jokingly ironic).

Origin:

This expression owes its appearance in Russian culture to the writer and author-compiler of the famous "Explanatory Dictionary of the Living Great Russian Language" Vladimir Ivanovich Dahl (1801-1872). He is also the author of other works, including Tales of the Times of Paul I, which he wrote down from the words of his father. They cite a historical anecdote based on the general atmosphere of the Pavlovian reign, when some officers suddenly became privates from generals, somehow not pleasing the emperor, while others, on the contrary, made a rapid career in the blink of an eye. Once, a certain military clerk, drawing up an order for the promotion of officers to the next rank, deducing the words "ensigns are such and such as second lieutenants", made a mistake - he moved the end of the word "ensigns" ("ki") to the next line, writing it with a capital letter and merged with the subsequent "g". So a certain "ensign Kizh" appeared. Emperor Pavel, signing this decree on the promotion of warrant officers to second lieutenants, decided for some reason to single out Kizh in particular and inscribed with his own hand: "Lieutenant Kizh to lieutenants." And for some reason, this freshly baked lieutenant Kizh came to the tsar's liking: the next day, signing a similar order, Pavel promoted him to staff captain, on the third - to captain. Soon a decree was issued on conferring the rank of colonel on Kizhu with a royal note on the order: "Call me now." The entire military leadership was alarmed, but they could not find Kizh. And, only having found the first order, with a clerical error, did they understand what was the matter. But no one dared to report to the emperor that the officer he loved so much was the fruit of a clerical mistake. And since Pavel hurried everything with an audience, they finally decided to report on Colonel Kizhe like this - he supposedly died suddenly and therefore cannot arrive. "It's a pity, there was a good officer ..." - Pavel said sadly (Russian antiquity. 1870. Vol. II). Later, the Soviet writer Yu. N. Tynyanov wrote the story Lieutenant Kizhe (1928) based on this plot, which was subsequently filmed. The author retained the plot of the original source almost completely, only called the mythical second lieutenant a little differently - "Kizhe" (with an emphasis on the last word), thus giving him a French origin.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Protocol for designing multidimensional states 23.12.2021

The inevitable presence of noise and shortcomings in the characteristics of experimental devices reduce the overall quality of generation of multidimensional states. To overcome these limitations, a team of researchers from Sapienza University of Rome, Queen's University of Belfast and the University of Palermo used an adaptive optimization protocol capable of generating arbitrary multidimensional states.

The adaptive optimization protocol constructs arbitrary multidimensional states for solving quantum information problems that require finding optimal values of experimental parameters in noisy conditions.

The creation of multidimensional quantum states in quantum information protocols provides better performance in applications ranging from secure quantum communication to fault-tolerant quantum computing. A significant achievement would be the development of universal protocols capable of constructing arbitrary multidimensional quantum states. To this end, several strategies and platforms have been proposed and developed.

Under a completely black box scenario, the protocol proposed by scientists at Sapienza University tunes the appropriate experimental parameters, relying only on the measured match between the produced and target state, without the need to describe the generation setup.

Scheme of an automated platform for constructing arbitrary qudit states from the orbital angular momentum of photons. Experiment parameters are adaptively optimized to generate target states.

The scientists experimentally tested the protocol using the orbital angular momentum (OAM) of classical light and single photons. OAM is the degree of freedom of an electromagnetic field associated with its spatial and phase profile. Because OUM is an infinite-dimensional degree of freedom, it is suitable for encoding arbitrary multidimensional quantum states. The authors experimentally implemented the protocol using a state generation platform based on the dynamics of quantum walk in OAM and polarization degrees of freedom. By adjusting the parameters of the operators acting on the polarization state, it is possible to design an arbitrary pedestrian state encoded in OAM space. The proposed optimization algorithm then performs an online tuning of the experimental parameters that govern the dynamics to obtain the desired result.

The optimization protocol has been shown to perform well under noisy experimental conditions for several XNUMXD target states of the OUM. Finally, the team explored the adaptability of the protocol by introducing time-varying noise as an external influence on parameter values. The protocol found a new optimal solution after introducing these external perturbations. The proposed protocol is applicable in a wide variety of circumstances, even in the presence of interference, without the need for significant fine-tuning.
