Meaning: United States of America, US government (ironic).

Origin: Turnover English - Uncle Sam, which is believed to have originated as a playful transcript of the letter abbreviation US (United States - United States). Later, probably, an appropriate "explanatory" story was chosen for the combination Uncle Sam: in the US Army there was a supply man Samuel Wilson, who marked all the food boxes he checked with the letters US.
