Cudgel
Proverbs and sayings
Phraseologism: Cudgel stoerosovy.
Meaning: About an extremely stupid, stupid person, a fool, a blockhead (simple).
Origin: The expression is based on the figurative meaning of the word cudgel - "a stupid, dull person." The adjective stoerosovy is explained in different ways. It can mean "growing standing", i.e. "straight". Linguists also make an assumption about the seminary origin of the turnover: stauros could have arisen as an alteration of the Greek stauros "stake, pole, pile."

An ironic characterization of certain "bourgeois" values and conventions, as well as customs that the speaker simply does not like for any reason.
Origin:
It is first encountered in The Condition of the Working Class in England by Friedrich Engels (1820-1895). But this expression gained popularity after it was used in the "Manifesto of the Communist Party" (1848, first Russian edition - Geneva, 1869): "The proletarian has no property, 1 his attitude towards his wife and children has nothing more to do with bourgeois family relations ... Laws, morality, religion - all this for him is nothing more than bourgeois prejudices, behind which bourgeois interests are hidden.
