Origin: 1. The expression is built on the figurative meaning of the words "Sidor" and "goat". Sidor was popularly called either an evil and grumpy person, or a rich miser (who would not spare his own goat if it climbed into the garden and ruined the beds, for example). The goat was considered an animal of a bad temper, for which, in fact, according to the ideas of our ancestors, it deserved to be flogged. And indeed, goats often got it for grass. 2. Initially, there was no talk of any goat, and "sidor's goat" is a distortion of the Arabic phrase "sadar kaza", which meant the sentence of the Sharia judge - kazi, or kaziy - and often contained punishment for the convicted person in the form of beating with sticks. The Arabic word "kaza" means, in addition, the legal proceedings themselves, more precisely, the consideration of individual court cases, cases.
