Phraseologism: Down with the weapons!

Meaning: It is used as a call for peace, for the renunciation of aggression, the arms race.

Origin: From German: Die Waffen nieder! The title of a novel (1889) by the Austrian pacifist writer Bertha von Sutner (1843-1914), directed against war and the arms race or, as they called it at the time, "leaps" of arms.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Tesla all-wheel drive electric car with autopilot functions 15.10.2014

The American company Tesla Motors has announced an updated version of the Model S electric car. The novelty with the D index in the designation has become faster and more expensive than its predecessor, and is also equipped with automatic control functions.

As expected, the letter "D" stood for Dual-Motor AWD, which involves the use of two electric motors, one of which sends power to the front wheels. Thus, the electric car became all-wheel drive.

From 0 to 100 km / h, the electric sedan accelerates in just 3,2 seconds (which corresponds to the passport data of the McLaren F1 supercar), and this makes the new Model S one of the fastest production sedans on the market. The maximum speed of the Tesla flagship has increased from 210 to 250 km/h. The total power of the power plant was 691 hp. against the previous 416 hp

The power reserve has also increased: the P85D version is able to drive almost 443 km without recharging, while the limit value of the rear-wheel drive Model S is limited to 420 km.

The improvement in technical characteristics was reflected in the cost of the machine. It will exceed $120 thousand for the maximum modification with batteries storing 85 kWh, while previously the most expensive Model S was estimated at about $105,5 thousand.

During the presentation of a sports electric car, the head of Tesla, Elon Musk, spoke about the automatic control functions that will appear in all new cars of the manufacturer. The first of the systems allows the car to independently change lanes when the driver turns on the turn signal after the electronics, using data from built-in video cameras, radars and ultrasonic sensors, makes sure that the maneuver is safe.

In addition, Tesla electric vehicles will be able to park themselves, make an emergency stop when an obstacle is detected on the way, and read road signs. Noticing the signs with speed limits, the "autopilot" will reset the speed of the vehicle to the permitted speed.
