To share the skin of an unfortunate bear

Jean de La Fontaine
Jean de La Fontaine

Phraseologism: Share the skin of an unkilled bear.

Meaning: Anticipate the outcome of a case.

Origin: The original source is the fable "The Bear and Two Comrades" by the French poet and fabulist Jean La Fontaine (1621-1695). It is noteworthy that back in the 30s. XNUMXth century in Russia it was customary to say: "Sell (and not share) the skin of an unkilled bear." This version of the expression is much closer to the original source, and more logical, because there is no benefit from the "divided" skin, it is valued only when it remains intact. An analogue of the saying "Don't say "hop" until you jump over."

Random phraseology:

The good of the people is the highest law.

Meaning:

The people are the highest value of the state.

Origin:

From Latin: Salus populi suprema lex. From the speech "On the laws" of the Roman statesman, writer and orator Cicero (Mark Tullius Cicero, 106-43 BC): "Let the welfare of the people be the highest law of their (rulers").

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. Daimler turns coal-fired power plant into energy storage 06.07.2018

Mercedes-Benz Energy, a subsidiary of the German automaker Daimler, has teamed up with partners to create a massive energy storage facility at the Elferlingsen coal-fired power plant using 1920 battery modules for electric vehicles.

The coal-fired power plant, built in 1912, was recently closed. The 8,96 MW/9,8 MWh system running in her building uses a total of 1920 batteries. These batteries would be enough to power 600 Daimler Smart electric vehicles.

"Large energy storage is a symbol of the transformation in the way energy is stored and used, from supplying electricity to the grid from fossil energy sources, to a sustainable extension of the electric vehicle value chain, which has reduced CO2 emissions," commented the automaker's launch of the storage facility.

The constructed storage facility will be used to maintain the balance of the German energy system. The partners of Mercedes-Benz Energy in this project were ENERGIE and The Mobility House. It follows several other large-scale energy storage projects undertaken by Mercedes-Benz Energy. For example, last year the company and partners built a larger energy storage facility in Herrenhausen. Its capacity is 17,4 MWh.
