The new face of Nokia

29.01.2012

Smartphones based on Windows Phone 7 began to appear on the Russian market. One of the first devices with the new OS was introduced by Nokia. The Lumia 800 is the flagship model. Outwardly, it practically does not differ from the Nokia N9: it has the same one-piece polycarbonate body and full touch control.

The smartphone is presented in three colors: turquoise, purple and black. The novelty is notable for its integration with social networks Facebook, Twitter and VKontakte, the pre-installed navigation service Nokia Navigator with detailed maps of more than 100 countries, support for the SkyDrive cloud service, as well as a separate catalog of applications in the Microsoft Marketplace. The cost of Lumia 800 is 670 USD.

The second model - Lumia 710 - is more youthful both in its catchy form and bright design, and in its affordable price of 420 USD.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Neurostimulation helps with chronic pain 14.05.2012

Specialists of the IPMC clinic have developed a unique spinal cord stimulation technology that relieves patients of even severe chronic pain. In 2011, the new technology was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration and is now being used in US clinics. To “turn off” the pain, a thin flexible probe is used, which is inserted into a certain area of the spinal cord through a small puncture in the skin. The probe, using an electrical impulse generator, reduces pain by 75% or more.

Until now, for the treatment of acute chronic pain, chemical painkillers have been used, which eventually lose their effectiveness and are addictive. The new technology does not use any harmful substances and has no harmful side effects. At the same time, unlike painkillers, the implant does not bring temporary relief, but acts permanently.

Initially, short-term pain relief sessions are carried out for 3-6 days using a temporary implant. According to doctors, after turning on the device, one often hears a sigh of relief from the patient - it relieves pain like a hand. In the event that a person suffers from constant pain, a permanent wearable implant in the form of a probe connected to a battery can be used. According to patients, turning on the electrical impulse generator is like the best massage that instantly drowns out pain.

One of the patients, Maggie Peler, suffered from unbearable pain in her leg for more than 10 years. After Maggie participated in the new technology testing program and used the new probe for 5 days, she 'understood the suffering that had haunted her all these years, and how good it is to live without it'. She currently wants to get a permanent implant so she can use it continuously.

There are millions of such patients around the world, not to mention temporary injuries associated with acute pain. A new spinal cord stimulation technology can make life easier for these people and improve their quality of life.
