I want a pen to be equated with a bayonet

Mayakovsky V.V.
Mayakovsky V.V.

Phraseologism: I want the pen to be equated with the bayonet.

Meaning: Allegorically about the social role of poetry, literature in general.

Origin: From the poem "Home!" (1926) Vladimir Vladimirovich Mayakovsky (1893-1930).

Random phraseology:

Night of the Long Knives.

Meaning:

Bloody conspiracy, rebellion.

Origin:

From German: Die Nacht tier langen Messer. The code name of the operation (June 30, 1934), during which SS detachments destroyed the leadership of the SA assault detachments (stormtroopers). Earlier, the attack aircraft themselves threatened to arrange a "night of long knives" in Germany. Later, at a meeting of the Reichstag in the premises of the Royal Opera House (July 13, 1934), A. Hitler said: "The new, and this time bloody performance, which was dubbed the terrible name" Night of the Long Knives ", corresponded to my own thoughts." As the authors of the Polish reference book "Winged Words" (Warsaw, 1990) X. Markevich and A. Romanovsky point out, the source of this expression is the song of the assault detachments of the Nazi party: "let's sharpen long knives on the curb of the sidewalk."

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>
