Meaning: It is used as a playful self-justification formula when it is impossible to do something well, properly, in the way that others expect it to be.
Origin: From the Soviet children's film "Cinderella" (1947), filmed by directors Nadezhda Kosheverova and Mikhail Shapiro based on a fairy tale by the Soviet playwright Yevgeny Lvovich Schwartz (1896-1958). The words of the page boy accompanying the sorceress, addressed to Cinderella.

Origin:
From the novel (Ch. 18 "The Unfortunate Visitors") "The Master and Margarita" (1940) by Mikhail Afanasyevich Bulgakov (1891-1940). Words by Koroviev-Fagot commenting on the dialogue between Woland and the barman Andrey Fokich Sokov. The latter came to complain about the spectators, who, after the "tricks" of the magician, paid in the buffet with counterfeit gold pieces and "punished the buffet for one hundred and nine rubles."
