We will show you Kuz'kin's mother!

Khrushchev N.S.
Khrushchev N.S.

Phraseologism: We will show you Kuz'kin's mother!

Meaning: The phrase is a symbol of dangerous, capricious moods and statements in political practice.

Origin: The words of the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU, the head of the USSR Nikita Sergeevich Khrushchev (1894-1971), spoken by him (1959) to US Vice President Richard Nixon. In the original: "We have means at our disposal that will have dire consequences for you. We will show you Kuzka's mother!" In Russia, a legend subsequently developed that these words of the Soviet leader were allegedly translated to the Americans literally as "Kuzma's mother", and they considered that this was some kind of new secret weapon of the Russians. In fact, the translator of the Soviet leader translated this expression, of course, allegorically: "We shall show you what is what", that is: "We will show you what is what." It is used as a playfully ironic threat to someone, usually with an allusion to the original source. Usually mentioned along with another phrase ("We will bury you") by the same author, also addressed to an American audience.

Random phraseology:

The state is me.

Meaning:

To characterize persons occupying a leading position in the country and showing gross arbitrariness in their activities.

Origin:

The expression is attributed to the French king (1643-1715) Louis XIV, who allegedly said so in a meeting of parliament in 1655 (Dulaure, Histoire civile, physique et morale de Paris, 1853, p. 387). However, the belonging of this phrase to Louis XIV is refuted by historians. From the minutes of the said session of parliament published by Alexandre Roger, which was kept in the secret state archive, it is clear that the king did not utter this phrase (Roger Alexandre, Le Mshee de la conversation, Paris, 1901, p. 73). The magazine "Revue Britan-nique" (May, 1851) attributes this phrase to the English Queen (1558-1603) Elizabeth.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food.
