Every family has its black sheep

Krylov I.A.
Krylov I.A.

Phraseologism: Every family has its black sheep.

Meaning: And in the best team there is a person who casts a shadow on him, acts contrary to his principles and traditions.

Origin: From the fable "Elephant in the Voivodship" (1808.) by I. A. Krylova (1769-1844): "Although it seems that elephants are a smart breed, // However, the family has its black sheep: // Our governor // To relatives was fat, // Yes, he was not simple in his relatives.

Random phraseology:

We are not slaves, we are not slaves.

Meaning:

We are not slaves because we are not dumb.

Origin:

a phrase from the first Soviet alphabet "Down with illiteracy: A primer for adults" (1919). Editions of the "Primer" were published anonymously in 1919-1920 in different cities, the first edition was issued by the political department of the Revolutionary Military Council of the Southern Front. Dora Yuryevna Elkina (1890-1963) is usually called the author of the Primer, with reference to her memoirs. However, the primers compiled by her earlier have nothing in common with the Primer for Adults, which was created under the obvious influence of futurism in literature. In 1987, Alexander Yakovlevich Shneer, later a researcher of the history of the Soviet theater, circus and stage, was named the author of the Primer. The phrase is a verbal palindrome, that is, it can be read both from left to right and, according to words, from right to left.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Flying at 68 terabitometers per second 20.07.2004

Scientists from Switzerland and the USA set another record for data transfer speed over long distances.

Scientists from CERN and the California Institute of Technology set another record in the speed of information transfer over the Network: the distance of 11 thousand kilometers sent gigabits covered at a speed of 68 terabitometers per second, that is, the bandwidth of the communication channel was 431 gigabits per second. This is ten thousand times the capacity of a broadband access channel.

For the record, the usual IP data transfer protocol version 4 and the existing global network were used, to which dynamic optical path switches were added. "The record brings us closer to the coveted threshold of ten gigabits per second," says Oliver Martin, head of CERN's external networks sector.

In the next decade, scientists working in bioinformatics, high-energy physics, astrophysics, nuclear fusion or climate science will need to transfer data over global computer networks at a rate of about one terabit per second, according to a study by the US Department of Energy.
