Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Experiments on chimpanzees are prohibited 23.06.2015

The US Wildlife Service (FWS) has equated captive-bred chimpanzees with wild relatives, thus banning biomedical research on monkeys.

Now any invasive experiments on chimpanzees involving the taking of tissue samples or the introduction of drugs into the body are outlawed - except in cases that "are capable of benefiting the survival of the species in the wild."

Chimpanzees are prohibited from inflicting any bodily harm, injure or humiliate, or sell the blood of monkeys, samples of their cells or tissues without special permission from the relevant authorities.

Scientists perceived the legislative initiative rather ambiguously. The executive vice president of the National Association for Biomedical Research in Washington (USA) said that experiments on monkeys also benefit humans, since our diseases are in many ways identical.

However, animal rights organizations supported the actions of the FWS. Moreover, now the New York State Supreme Court is considering a case of unlawful imprisonment and forcible retention of two chimpanzees on the territory of the medical laboratory of the State University of New York at Stony Brook (USA).
