The less we love a woman, the more she likes us.

Pushkin A.S.
Pushkin A.S.

Phraseologism: The less we love a woman, the more she likes us.

Meaning: By intriguing a woman, you can arouse interest and romantic feelings for yourself.

Origin: Inaccurate quote from the novel in verse "Eugene Onegin" (1823-1831) by A. S. Pushkin (1799-1837) (ch. 4, stanza 7): "The less we love a woman, // The easier she likes us // And the more surely we destroy it // Among the seductive nets. // Debauchery used to be cold-blooded // He was famous for love science, // Blowing about himself everywhere // And enjoying not loving ... "The same thought, with the same commentary, the poet expressed (1822) in a letter to his brother, Lev Sergeevich: "The less you love a woman, the more surely you master her. But this pleasure is worthy of an old monkey of the 18th century."

Random phraseology:

Smart language. Zaum.

Meaning:

Language overloaded with special terminology, pseudoscientific nonsense (iron.).

Origin:

From the "Declaration of the word as such" (1913) by the poet and theorist of futurism Alexei Eliseevich Kruchenykh (1886-1968): "Thought and speech do not keep pace with the experience of inspiration, therefore the artist is free to express himself not only in a common language ... but also personal ... meaningless... abstruse." On the basis of this theory, some Futurist poets wrote, for example, such verses: "Serzha melepet hauled ok rizum melev alik", etc., which were devoid of any meaning for the reader. Hence - "zaum".

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

The radioisotope method misled scientists 21.04.2012

A new study has shown that some events in the history of the Earth occurred much later than previously thought.
Scientists from the British Geological Survey and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have refined the method of measuring time from the isotopic composition of uranium, which is now used to estimate the age of major geological events. Thus, it turned out that previous studies erroneously "aged" events by 700000 years, and maybe even by millions of years.

Minerals naturally trap uranium particles, which then decay to form other elements, including lead. A new study has shown that it is possible to more accurately measure the number of uranium isotopes 238U and 235U and more accurately determine how much time has passed since the formation of a particular mineral and rock.

The scientists emphasize that for samples about 4,5 billion years old (the age of the Earth), all previous measurements based on the isotope decay of uranium-lead (U-Pb) need to be revised, and the difference could be hundreds of thousands and even millions of years.

The new 238U/235U ratio will allow geologists to more accurately determine the time frame for a wide range of geological processes: from the beginning of the formation of our planet, continents and mineral deposits to evolutionary events and climate change.

For over 35 years, the 238U/235U ratio of 137,88 has been used to calculate the U-Pb date. This technique has been used for most of the samples, including the oldest rocks that formed four billion years ago, and very young ones that are only a few hundred years old.

However, when a group of British and American scientists estimated the weight and age of zircon crystals recovered from the bottom of the East Pacific Rise, they found that their age varies greatly. From a geological point of view, this is impossible, since all the crystals must have formed at approximately the same time.

As a result, the scientists concluded that many uranium-rich minerals, such as zircon, actually have a lower 238U/235U ratio, which can range from 137,743 to 138,490. Such a seemingly insignificant fluctuation can lead to the fact that the actual age of the rock differs from that measured by geologists by hundreds of thousands, and sometimes millions of years. It is clear that in this case, the course of many geological and biological processes on our planet will have to be revised.
