Proverbs and sayings
Proverbs and sayings

Phraseologism: Mug.

Meaning: 1. Face (usually very full, swollen with fat or disgusting in appearance, expression), erysipelas. 2. About who causes anger, indignation, disgust, freak, image.

Origin: In ancient times, in Russia, masks were called kharyas, as an abbreviation for "Christmas mug", but this meaning appeared from the more common definition of Hari in dictionaries - as "disgusting face". It is often used as part of phraseological units - "make a face", meaning to grimace, and "put on a face", meaning "pretend to be someone".

Random phraseology:

Blue Beard.

Meaning:

Strict, demanding, etc. husband (jokingly-ironic).

Origin:

From the old French fairy tale "Raoul, the Knight of the Bluebeard", edited and published by the French fairy tale writer Charles Perrault in 1697. It tells of a knight who, in anger, killed his first wife, then five others, whom he married later. He dealt with them because, driven by curiosity, they violated his ban and looked into the secret room of the Bluebeard castle - the one where the first murder took place. Violated Raul's ban and his seventh wife, but her brothers arrived in time in time, and she was saved. The nickname Bluebeard became a household name after the French composer Jacques Offenbach wrote an operetta (1866) based on this fabulous story. Later, they began to jokingly call an extremely jealous husband like that, although the tale itself does not give grounds for this.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. Slim, flexible NEC battery charges in 30 seconds 19.02.2006

The Japanese company NEC announced the development of a flexible and very thin rechargeable battery that has a very short charge time - only 30 seconds.

Electricity is generated in it by an electrochemical reaction involving radicals of organic compounds. That's why NEC named it organic radical battery (ORB). The working substance in it is an organic polymer compound RTMA, and there are no heavy metals (mercury, lead or cadmium) at all. So it also does not pollute the environment.

The battery is only 0 mm thick, so it is planned to be used in RFID smart cards and "electronic paper", although there are other low-power applications.

According to NEC, the battery will last for several weeks of RFID card operation. The 4 sq. cm was embedded in a plastic card the size of a credit card. On this card there was also an LED that, after the battery was charged, burned for 20 minutes. We also add that this was not the first ORB battery demonstrated by NEC, but it is smaller than its predecessors.

NEC has been working on this project since 2000, and, for example, in August 2005, a prototype 55x43x4 mm in size and weighing 20 grams was demonstrated, designed for emergency power supply of a computer.

This battery will last for a minute of computer operation with a power consumption of 140 W, and during this time the user can save the files he was working on and correctly close running applications.
