Antics and jumps

Krylov I.A.
Krylov I.A.

Phraseologism: Antics and jumps.

Meaning: It is used about someone's unnatural, cutesy behavior, coquetry, affectation, etc. (iron., contempt.).

Origin: From the fable "The Mirror and the Monkey" (1815) by I. A. Krylov (1769-1844). The monkey, looking at himself in the mirror, is surprised at the behavior of an unfamiliar creature that he sees there: "What kind of mug is there? // What antics and jumps she has! // I would strangle myself with longing, // If only a little looked like."

Random phraseology:

Bosom friend.

Meaning:

Best buddy.

Origin:

The old expression "pour over the Adam's apple" meant "get drunk", "drink with alcohol." Hence the phraseological unit "bosom friend" was formed, which today is used to refer to a very close friend. In the same meaning, only the gesture of light tapping or imitation of a shelban on the neck with a finger has been preserved.

The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>
