Phraseologism: Property is theft.

Origin: From French: La proprtete, c'est le vol. The phrase was in great use among prominent figures of the French Revolution, for example, Jean Pierre Brissot (1754-1793), who expressed the same idea (1780): "Property is theft." But the expression became widely known thanks to the French economist and philosopher Pierre Joseph Proudhon (1809-1865), with whose name this thesis in the XIX-XX centuries. and became associated. This thesis is contained in his pamphlet What is Property? (1840). The rationale for this position is also given there. In Russia, Proudhon's phrase was popularized by the novel The Cliff by I. A. Goncharov, where Mark Volokhov, Goncharov's version of the image of a nihilist in Russian literature, made this idea his credo.
