Investigation Completed: Forget

"The investigation is over: forget it"
"The investigation is over: forget it"

Phraseologism: The investigation is over: forget it.

Meaning: It is used as an ironic commentary on the attempts of the law enforcement authorities to "hush up the case", conduct an investigation formally, etc.

Origin: From Italian: "L"istntttoria with ciusa: dimentichi". The title of the novel by the Italian writer Leros Pittoni. The expression became popular after the release (under the same name) of the film adaptation (1971) directed by Damiano Damiani.

Random phraseology:

Augean stables.

Meaning:

1. About a heavily polluted, cluttered, clogged place (as a result of prolonged neglect), a room where there is a complete mess. 2. About any institution, organization, etc., where disorder and chaos reigns, complete confusion in the conduct of business, 3. about heavily neglected cases, a disorderly accumulation of papers and documents.

Origin:

The origin of the turnover is connected with the ancient Greek legend about the sixth of the twelve labors of Hercules. The hero was able to clear the barnyard of King Avgii, where bulls were kept, donated to Avgii by his father. This yard has not been cleaned for years. Hercules also destroyed the wall that surrounded the courtyard on both sides, and diverted there the water of two full-flowing rivers - Alfea and Peneus. The water carried away all the manure in one day. The "Animal Farm" of Tsar Avgiy, when tracing into Russian, was inaccurately translated by the word stables.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

controlled bacteria 18.02.2009

Employees of the Polytechnic School of Montreal (Canada) forced the bacteria to carry a payload, and were able to control their movement through the blood vessels.

For the experiment, we chose specific bacteria that live in sea silt and contain magnetic particles of iron oxide. The diameter of such a bacterium is two microns, so that it can pass through the thinnest blood capillaries.

Each bacterium was attached to a plastic ball with a diameter of 150 nanometers (the balls were pre-dressed with antibodies to this type of bacteria, which is why they stuck). The bacterium moves with the help of its flagellum, working with it like a screw. Using an externally applied magnetic field, the scientists directed the movement of bacteria through the pig's circulatory system.

The aim of the research is to get bacteria to carry drug particles to the place where these drugs are needed, for example, to a cancerous tumor.
