Hand file

Proverbs and sayings
Proverbs and sayings

Phraseologism: Give a hand.

Meaning: Very close.

Origin: In the old days, the hand served as a measure of length. The original form of this phraseological unit was (as) a hand to go. Constructions of the infinitive with a noun in -a in it. cases were very common in Russian. There are two versions of the origin of this turnover: 1) the original form of the expression was a hand to go - the remnant of the previously widespread construction in the Russian language "indefinite form of verb + im. case of noun on -a", which still exists in some Northern Russian dialects (cf. bath to drown instead of bath to drown). At first, this combination meant "hand-length distance", and then gradually acquired the general meaning "close", 2) a proper Russian expression. Modification of a hand to give, how to give a hand. Vin. and tv. cases in the role of direct and indirect object express the same meaning (cf. throw a stone and throw a stone).

Random phraseology:

In the sweat of your face.

Meaning:

Work hard, work hard to get bread.

Origin:

The expression originated from a biblical myth. Expelling Adam from paradise, God told him: "In the sweat of your face you will eat bread" (Genesis, 3, 19).

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>
