Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Forests do not save from excess carbon dioxide 05.06.2013

The world's leading environmental and climate change experts have warned that planting trees will not help offset carbon dioxide emissions from burning oil, gas and coal.

Professor Brendan Mackay from Griffith University (Australia), after a long study, together with Australian and British scientists, came to the conclusion that the consequences of carbon dioxide emissions from burning oil, gas and coal are irreversible. Of course, planting forests and preserving existing ones is an integral part of the environmental protection program, but it will not solve the problem of normalizing the level of greenhouse gases in the Earth's atmosphere. Thus, according to the researchers, politicians around the world, making decisions at the national and international levels, are obliged to look for new ways to solve the problem, and not rely only on saving forests from cutting down and planting new ones. According to an Australian researcher, the idea that forests can save us from an excess of man-made carbon dioxide only legitimizes the unlimited, uncontrolled use of fuel.

And although in reality, planting forests and saving the disappearing ones only partially compensates for the harm from the emission of carbon dioxide, according to the researchers, such efforts should be continued and encouraged in every possible way: in addition to offsetting carbon dioxide emissions, planting forests helps to preserve the biodiversity of the planet.

Help to get rid of excessive carbon dioxide emissions due to fuel combustion can only be done by limiting the use of fossil fuels and, as a result, carbon dioxide emissions. Indeed, more than 70% of carbon dioxide emissions in the 60th century are associated with an increase in oil and gas production and the active use of these minerals in industry. And only about XNUMX% of the gas can be removed thanks to the existing forests and oceans.

Recall that carbon dioxide, being a greenhouse gas, has a significant impact on the planet's climate. High levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere increase the acidity of the ocean, which leads to the death of marine species, increases the global temperature on the planet, causing unpredictable weather events.
