Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Clothing with Wi-Fi hotspot, MP3 player and GPS navigation 03.05.2014

Wearables are currently associated with individual devices such as watches or headsets, but the future may lie in integrating these features into garments. In any case, this approach was proposed by the Dutch fashion designer Borre Akkersdijk (Borre Akkersdijk), creating an experimental "suit" called BB.Suit.

The secret of the jumpsuit with a hood, short sleeves and legs lies in the material from which it is sewn. "Special 3D Fabric Technology" has enabled the suit to incorporate electronic components, enabling Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC and more. For example, BB.Suit could be an MPXNUMX player and a mobile hotspot.

The creator of unusual clothing demonstrated its capabilities in an original way - visitors to the South by Southwest exhibition could follow his movements on Google Maps and download sound recordings through it.

So far, BB.Suit exists in the form of two prototypes, the task of which is to show manufacturers the potential of a development that can be called "smart fabric". Of course, widespread implementation is still far away, since prototypes only indicate the direction of development, and for mass-produced products it will be necessary to create flexible electronic components that can survive, for example, washing, and are also very thin.
