Last chinese warning

the USSR
the USSR

Phraseologism: Last Chinese warning.

Meaning: Warning, which is the last only in words (joking).

Origin: The emergence of turnover is associated with the conflict between the USSR and China in 1969 (Damansky Island). The Chinese government sent several "last" warnings to the USSR Foreign Ministry in connection with this conflict. There are various options, for example: the first, one hundred and last Chinese warning, the thirtieth last Chinese warning, etc. The PRC regularly issued warnings about the unfriendly actions of the United States in the region. At that time - the 50s - 60s - the United States did not recognize Mao's regime as legitimate, insisted that the only legitimate representative of the Chinese people and the head of state was Chiang Kai-shek, who had already been forced out to Taiwan at that time. And behave accordingly. The PRC regularly protested, and they began like this: "So-and-so in a row ... the last warning." Reconnaissance flights of aircraft over the territory of the PRC, constant violations of maritime borders by warships ... etc. Zero attention to warnings <...> And there were jokes on this subject both here and in the USA. Even though we were very good friends at the time. Therefore, all these warnings were read on the radio by Levitan with an appropriate mournful and solemn intonation. And when Khrushchev and Mao did not share world domination, open letters began (see Vysotsky) to "lovers of dangerous adventures": And by the time of the conflict, no one had forgotten that old joke about essentially fruitless warnings. Hence the hat-bearing jokes. with the corresponding result.

Random phraseology:

The Sabbath is for man, not man for the Sabbath.

Meaning:

One should not be a slave to the law, custom, rules, especially when they contradict the legitimate interests of a person.

Origin:

From the Bible. The Gospel of Mark (2:23-27) tells: on the Sabbath, when Jewish law forbade any kind of work, Jesus and his disciples walked through the field, and his disciples began to pluck the ears. The Pharisees, seeing this, said to Jesus, "Look what they do on the Sabbath, what should they not do?" Then Jesus, reminding them of the story of how hungry David and his companions entered the temple and began to eat sacrificial bread, which only the priests could eat, said: "The Sabbath is for a man, and not a man for the Sabbath." There is a similar phrase in the Talmud: "Sabbath should serve you, not you the Sabbath."

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Model aircraft flying at the tip of the beam 05.03.2004

A group of employees from NASA and the University of Alabama (USA) has created an aircraft model powered by laser beam energy in flight.

The aircraft, weighing about 300 grams, was powered by an ultraviolet laser beam aimed at photovoltaic arrays suspended from the model. Batteries turned light into electric current, which turned the model aircraft propeller. The test flight took place in a large hall.

Experimenters hope that similar but larger aircraft will be able to stay in the air for hours, collecting weather data or intelligence information.
