Put your fingers in the ulcers

Bible
Bible

Phraseologism: Put your fingers into the ulcers.

Meaning: Convince yourself of something with the help of facts (outdated book).

Origin: An expression from the Gospel: the Apostle Thomas did not want to believe that Christ had risen until he put his fingers (fingers) into the wounds inflicted on the Lord from nails (nail ulcers).

Random phraseology:

Bartholomew night.

Meaning:

About the cruel (sudden) massacre.

Origin:

Massacre of French Protestants in Paris on August 24, 1572 on the night of St. Bartholomew's Day (according to the Catholic calendar). The reprisal against the supporters of the Reformation was prepared by the Catholics ahead of time and was timed to coincide with the wedding of the sister of the King of France. The leaders of the Protestant Church were invited to Paris for this celebration, and the houses where the Protestants lived were marked with white crosses. At the ringing of the alarm bell, reprisals began at night: the “papists” broke into houses and killed their opponents right in their beds, sparing neither children nor women. After Paris, massacres began in other cities of France: more than 30 people were killed in two weeks. In memory of this beating of "heretics", the Pope ordered a commemorative medal to be knocked out and a festive illumination to be arranged in Rome.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>
