Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Growing Human Kidneys 04.10.2015

Japanese scientists have made great strides in creating an artificial kidney. This will help save many people who lack donor organs.

Kidney disease requiring a transplant is common throughout the world. In the UK alone, more than 6000 people are currently waiting for a kidney transplant, but due to a lack of donors, less than 3000 such operations are performed annually. Worldwide, more than 350 people die every year without waiting for the donor kidney they need. A new technique, created by experts from Tokyo Medical University, can help those in need.

Experiments to create an artificial organ were carried out on rats and pigs using their own stem cells. At the first stage, the grown kidney took root well, but it was difficult to conduct fluid. Then the scientists revised their approach: at the same time as the kidney, they began to grow the ureter and bladder. Thus, the entire main complex of the urinary system was simultaneously transplanted into the animals.

It became possible to declare the success of the experiment eight weeks after the operation: the organs took root and continued to perform their functions perfectly. This allows you to start working on the creation of an artificial kidney for humans.
