Phraseologism: O you, that in sorrow you murmur against God in vain, man!

Meaning: Quoted as playfully ironic consolation.

Origin: From "Ode Chosen from Job" (1751) by Mikhail Vasilyevich Lomonosov (1711-1765).

Random phraseology:

They work, and you eat their work.

Meaning:

It is used as a form of censure, reproach against all kinds of loafers who live off the labor of others.

Origin:

From the parable (fable) "Beetles and Bees" (c. 1750) by playwright and satirist Alexander Petrovich Sumarokov (1717-1777). The parable says that some "ignorant Beetles crawled into the sciences" and began to teach the Bees to make honey (as the author writes, "molasses", which in his time was a synonym for honey). The bees complained to Apollo - the god of art, science and crafts. Apollo descended from Parnassus "And Zhukov // He drove everyone out, // He said:" My friends, go to the manure from here, // They work, and you eat their work, // Yes, you harm with miserly and molasses!" Phrase became widely known thanks to the writer-educator Nikolai Novikov, who used it as the motto of his satirical journal Truten (1769).N. I. Novikov considered Sumarokov's parables (he wrote 378 fables) "the treasure of Russian Parnassus."

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. Adjustable adhesive 19.03.2002

The German company BASF has developed a polymer adhesive called acresin, the adhesive strength of which can be adjusted. This is done by irradiating the adhesive with ultraviolet rays.

The higher the radiation dose, the less sticky acresin becomes. A strong version of it can be used in cases where the connection must be durable, and a weak one can be used, for example, on price labels, which are usually peeled off after buying a product. Acresin is environmentally friendly as it does not contain solvents.
