Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Shuttle DS57U compact system based on Broadwell 23.02.2015

Shuttle, a recognized manufacturer of compact systems, industrial solutions and barebone solutions, has introduced a novelty - a compact platform DS57U based on 14-nanometer Intel Broadwell processors. In the base model, this is an Intel Celeron 3205U with two cores operating at a frequency of 1,5 GHz and a TDP of 15 watts. The maximum amount of RAM is 16 GB.

Both HDMI and DisplayPort monitors are supported. Three other models in the line are equipped with more powerful processors: i3-5005U (DS57U3), i5-5200U (DS57U5) and i7-5500U (DS57U7). They support 4K video playback and processing. Other interfaces include two Gigabit Ethernet ports (Intel controllers) and two USB 3.0 ports, along with four USB 2.0 ports. Completes the system with an 802.11b/g/n wireless adapter.

The Shuttle DS57U's industrial application is hinted at by its rugged metal case and the presence of two RS-232 ports on the front panel, because this interface is still widely used in industry, medicine and trade. Since Broadwell processors have a low level of heat dissipation, the metal case is enough to cool them and there is no need for an active cooler, which makes the DS57U a completely silent system.

The youngest model in the family costs about 230 euros, you will have to pay extra for more powerful processors.
