Phraseologism: On ointment.

Meaning: The case is close to a successful implementation, to a successful conclusion.

Origin: Originally, the expression was applied to wagons and, in general, to such tools or vehicles that were lubricated before the trip. "On the ointment" meant in a figurative sense "will leave soon, already set up for departure and on the move, ready to move, to travel." Wed German "fertig" - "ready", ascending to the verb "fahren" - "to go".

Random phraseology:

Sitting friend.

Meaning:

Jokingly casual appeal to a friend (simple joking or ironic).

Origin:

The expression is associated with baking sieve (from flour sifted through a sieve) bread, which was eaten at lunch, at dinner, served with tea with honey and cottage cheese. They baked such bread with raisins. They ate sieve bread with pleasure, therefore a sieve friend is initially a person with whom you experience pleasure.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Multitasking reduces brain productivity 18.05.2017

Multitasking is considered a big plus - of course, because a person who is able to simultaneously talk on the phone, write e-mail and compose, say, some kind of report, seems to us a more productive worker than one who will do everything separately.

Researchers at Aalto University have found that tackling too many tasks at once makes our brains less efficient.

The participants in the experiment were required to watch several fragments from "Star Wars", "Indiana Jones" and "James Bond". In one case, all the fragments were six and a half minutes long and they went one after another, that is, a person first watched six and a half minutes about Bond, then immediately about Indiana Jones, and then a piece from Star Wars.

In another case, the same movie clips were cut into pieces of fifty seconds, and they had to be watched interspersed, that is, for example, fifty seconds from Star Wars followed by fifty seconds of Indiana Jones, then Star Wars returned, then Bond appeared. - and so on until all six and a half minutes of each film are watched in full.

When we watch a movie, read, write, and generally engage in more or less complex mental activity, then information chains are constantly being formed in our heads: if we watch a movie, then our brain adds another to one event, if we write a message to someone , then the words and thoughts that we wrote earlier are combined into a single sequence.

Obviously, understanding the material, understanding what you are doing, depends on how the mind processes the sequence of events. The authors of the work were interested in what would happen in the brain when presented with such a salad of different, unrelated stories.

The brain function of those who watched the movie was assessed using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). As a result, we managed to find out that during the leapfrog of fifty-second segments, the activity of those brain zones that are responsible for the fusion of information pieces into a single whole fell.

On the contrary, if all three excerpts from different films were watched at once in their entirety, without being distracted, then the same brain areas worked more actively. It can be assumed that the low activity of the areas responsible for the formation of a holistic information picture affected cognitive functions.
