Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Samsung 8Gb DDR4 chips and 32GB DDR4 modules 23.10.2014

Samsung Electronics has announced the start of mass production of 4Gb DDR8 chips using 20nm technology. The new memory chips enable the creation of 32 GB modules, whose production has already begun. In the future, Samsung will be able to create server modules with a capacity of 128 GB.

Samsung's new 8Gb DDR4 memory chips are certified to operate at frequencies up to 2400MHz with a supply voltage of 1,2V, the lowest in the industry. While the 8Gb memory chips will not operate at the ultra-high frequencies of the 4Gb variants, they will allow for larger modules, which is important for powerful next-generation servers based on multi-core Intel Xeon E5 v3 "Haswell-EP" processors.

Samsung has already begun production of 32 GB server RDIMMs based on the new memory chips. These modules will operate at frequencies up to 2400 MHz, which is 29% faster than DDR3 RDIMM modules for servers of the same size that operate at 1866 MHz.

Going forward, Samsung plans to create multilayer memory chips using 8Gb chips and TSV (through silicon via) connections. The chip, which will include four 8-Gb chips, will have a capacity of 32 Gb, which will make it possible to create memory modules up to 128 GB.

Samsung is the first PC memory maker to produce 4Gb DDR8 chips using 20nm technology. This approach will reduce the size of the chips and, consequently, their cost. It's unlikely that 8Gb chips will become popular in the PC market anytime soon, but servers and some workstations will use modules based on them.
