To the full (full) coil to do something

Proverbs and sayings
Proverbs and sayings

Phraseologism: To the full (full) coil to do something.

Meaning: To the end, to the utmost, completely, with might and main to do something (simple).

Origin: There are several versions of the origin of this turnover. According to one of them, the expression entered modern speech from the language of signalmen during the Great Patriotic War. According to another version, the source of the turnover is the speech of the fishermen (meaning that the fishing line is unwound from the reel). The third version associates this expression with the process of adjusting the volume of the sound of a radio device: the volume control resembles a coil in shape.

Random phraseology:

Mutual guarantee.

Meaning:

A system of mutual protection to avoid punishment for crimes.

Origin:

This expression was widely used in the 15th-16th centuries, where in Russia, the obligation was imposed to eradicate crimes and prevent them. This imposition concerned the communities of the inhabitants of the lip districts. If the duties were not fulfilled, or the offender was not found, the entire community was financially and criminally liable. Over time, this expression acquired a disapproving connotation, as it began to be used for other reasons. In modern language, it is used in cases where lawbreakers, out of fear of responsibility, cover each other.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Robot eagle 25.09.2013

Giving drones the shape of birds is a promising direction. Flying at an altitude of several hundred meters, Shepherd-MIL is indistinguishable from a living bird soaring in the air. This attracts less attention of onlookers, and for terrorists and enemy soldiers it is an additional factor of psychological pressure: even today, the inhabitants of Afghanistan and Pakistan see an unmanned threat in every large bird.

Shepherd-MIL is currently being tested by the Spanish Army. Negotiations are also underway to sell the drone to foreign customers.

The Shepherd-MIL UAV, developed by the Spanish company EXPAL, is a small, hand-launched UAV. Currently, such small drones are the most widespread type of UAVs and are used in various armies of the world in the amount of thousands of units.

Shepherd-MIL has a number of features that distinguish it from popular UAVs like the RQ-11 Raven. Of course, first of all, this is design: the device imitates the appearance of a desert eagle, which is able to soar for hours over flat terrain, looking for prey. To give the appearance of a bird, the developers did not have to resort to complex tricks - only paint and a special film are used. The machine itself is very cheap, costing only around £1000, and fits easily into two small briefcase-like bags. Thanks to camouflage and a low-noise electric motor that can be switched off during planning, the Eagle UAV can descend to a height of up to 100 m without the risk of exposure. Conventional UAVs have to stay at an altitude of more than 1000 m, and even higher with good visibility and clear skies.

The drone is equipped with an autopilot, a communication system that can be replaced by a payload in the form of a thermal imager or video camera. First of all, the UAV is designed for reconnaissance and automatic target designation for mortar crews.
