5G on Everest 07.05.2020

Huawei and China Mobile have installed three 5G base stations on the northern slope of the world's highest mountain, along the Sino-Nepalese border.

Stations are installed in climbing camps at altitudes of 5300, 5800 and 6500 meters. For their installation, China Mobile sent 150 of its employees to Everest, who, in the course of the work, laid 25 kilometers of fiber optic cable along the mountain.

The equipment is intended primarily for measuring Everest, but scientists and climbers will also be able to use the network - for communication, as well as, for example, for live broadcasting of high-definition video.
