We will go the other way

Belousov P.P., "We will go the other way"
Belousov P.P., "We will go the other way"

Phraseologism: We will go the other way.

Meaning: About the desire to act differently than predecessors or colleagues, in the hope that this way you can achieve better results (jokingly ironic).

Origin: The words that, according to the Soviet tradition, the young Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov (Lenin, 1870-1924) uttered when he learned about the execution (1887) of his older brother, the Narodnaya Volya revolutionary Alexander Ulyanov, who, along with his comrades, was convicted of preparing an assassination attempt on the Russian emperor Alexandra 111. As Lenin's sister Maria Ilyinichna Ulyanova reported in her speech at the mourning meeting of the Moscow Soviet (February 7, 1924), he said: No, we will not go that way. This is not the way to go. At one time, the popularity of the expression was facilitated by the painting “We will go the other way” (1951) written on this plot by the Soviet artist P. P. Belousov (b. 1912).

Random phraseology:

Blue Dream, Blue Flower.

Meaning:

An idyllic, often unattainable dream

Origin:

According to one version, the expression appeared under the influence of the popular fairy tale play by M. Maeterlinck "The Blue Bird". According to another version, the turnover - an inaccurate tracing-paper from the German "die blauе Blume" - "blue flower", goes back to the novel by the German writer Novalis "Heinrich von Ofterdingen" (1802). The blue flower is a symbol of a high and unrealizable dream, dreamed of by a young poet.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. External drive Western Digital My Book Duo 44 TB 18.02.2023

Western Digital introduced 44TB external hard drive storage. The My Book Duo model connects via USB Type-C with USB 3.2 Gen 1 support and allows you to create RAID-0 and RAID-1 arrays. The device costs about the same as an NVIDIA RTX 4090 graphics card - $1499,99.

The two-drive My Book Duo was previously sold with storage capacities ranging from 16 TB to 36 TB. The new model includes two 22TB HDDs. Western Digital also added 22TB of single-drive My Book storage, the largest consumer hard drive capacity to date, according to the manufacturer. However, WD started selling 22TB NAS last summer as standalone hard drives.

The 44TB My Book Duo transfers data at speeds up to 5Gbps. Out of the box, AES 256-bit hardware encryption and password protection are supported.

My Book with one 22TB drive costs $599 - about $100 more than the internal 22TB hard drive that Western Digital sells. My Book Duo 44TB costs $149. They are available for purchase and work with Windows 10 and Windows 11, as well as macOS 11 and later (via the NTFS driver), allowing users to switch between Microsoft and Apple operating systems without the need for reformatting.

External hard drives can be a lot slower than their solid state counterparts, but they make up for it in capacity and price. WD's largest external SSD tops out at 32TB and costs $7500, although this model is aimed at professional users.

One reason to buy a 44TB external hard drive has to do with a recent research report on hard drive failure rates. It has been found that smaller capacity hard drives are more prone to failure as they age.
