Disservice

Krylov I.A.
Krylov I.A.

Phraseologism: Disservice.

Meaning: An inept, awkward service that brings harm, trouble instead of help.

Origin: Phraseologism goes back to I. A. Krylov's fable "The Hermit and the Bear" (1808), which tells about the friendship of the Hermit with the Bear. Once the Hermit went to bed, and the Bear drove flies away from him. He drove the fly off his cheek, she sat on his nose, then on his forehead. The bear took a heavy cobblestone and hit the Hermit with all his might on the forehead, killing not only the fly, but also his friend.

Random phraseology:

Throw away your excuses.

Meaning:

Speak directly, without omissions.

Origin:

Quote from the poem "To Lazarus" by G. Heine, translated by M. L. Mikhailov (1858). Either the entire quatrain is quoted, or individual expressions from it: "Drop your allegories // And empty hypotheses! // To damned questions // Give us direct answers." Hence the expression "cursed questions".

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. Electric submarine for tourists 28.10.2021

U-Boat Worx from the Netherlands has unveiled an electric submarine that, thanks to its high speed and easy handling, is able to compete in speed with active marine life and competitors' products. The Super Sub model is three times faster than the average tourist submarine.

For example, the Triton 3300/6 commercial submarine develops only 3 knots (5,5 km/h) under water, and the super-streamlined DeepFlight Dragon model - 4 knots (7,4 km/h). This is sometimes not enough to admire the marine life - at the sight of a "big fish", marine inhabitants prefer to get away at high speed.

You can catch up with the underwater fauna and have a good look only on a fast submarine. Super Sub develops fantastic for this class of devices 8 knots (14,8 km/h). However, great white sharks can move three times faster under water, not to mention real "masters" like sailfish.

In addition to the 60 kW propulsion system and hydrodynamic design, Super Sub boasts a three-seat bubble cabin with excellent visibility, automatic heading and depth control and other smart features. The battery with a capacity of 62 kWh is able to work up to 8 hours under water without recharging, and if something goes wrong, as planned, the life support system will maintain acceptable conditions for life for 96 hours. At the same time, the depth of submersion of the submarine is no more than 300 m.

The Super Sub model will be available from 2023 and will become the main platform for the creation of submersibles - several variants are planned.
