Krylov I.A.
Krylov I.A.

Phraseologism: Swan, Cancer and Pike.

Meaning: About the inconsistency of the actions of the participants in any common case.

Krylov (1769-1844): "When there is no agreement among the comrades, // Their business will not go well, // And it will not business, only flour. // Once a Swan, Cancer and Pike // They took a cart with luggage, // And together the three all harnessed it, // They climb out of their skin, but the cart still does not go! // Luggage would be for them seemed light: // Yes, the Swan rushes into the clouds, // The Cancer moves back, and the Pike pulls into the water ... "

Random phraseology:

bird language.

Meaning:

Speech overloaded with terms and wording obscuring the meaning, understood only by a few or generally poorly understood.

Origin:

The author of this expression is Dmitry Matveyevich Perevoshchikov (1788-1880), professor of astronomy at Moscow University, who thus characterized the language of Russian philosophical writings of the 1820s-1840s, overloaded with terms and formulations understandable only to "initiates". A. I. Herzen points to its authorship in his memoirs “The Past and Thoughts” (vol. 1, ch. 7): “In 1844, I met with Perevoshchikov at Shchepkin and sat next to him at dinner. In the end, he could not stand and said: “It’s a pity, sir, it’s a pity that circumstances prevented you from doing business, sir, you had excellent abilities, sir.” “But not everyone, after all,” I told him, "to follow you into the sky. We'll do something here, on earth." "I read it, sir: you can't understand, sir, bird language, sir. What a business, sir! No, sir! I laughed at this sentence for a long time, i.e. for a long time I did not understand that we had a language then really was nasty and if a bird, then, probably, a bird belonging to Minerva "(Minerva is the goddess of wisdom in ancient Roman mythology, and an owl was considered her symbol. Apparently, Herzen means this bird). D. M. Perevoshchikov gave an ironic meaning to the expression, which was well known in Russia before. This was the name of the system of conditional signals (mainly imitation of the voices of birds), which has been widely used in the Russian army since the time of Muscovite Russia. So. in one of the royal letters of 1508 it is written: "And the Crimean army will go against you, even if you give us a message in a bird's language."

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. Explosives will improve the safety of electric cars 01.10.2019

Bosch has developed a new system that is designed to reduce the risk of electric vehicle battery fire and electric shock to people in the event of an accident.

Many potential buyers of vehicles with an electric propulsion system have expressed concern that in the event of an accident, metal parts of the car body could be energized. And this can become an obstacle in the way of saving people. In addition, in such a situation, the risk of fire increases.

Bosch proposes to solve the problem by using small explosive packs. Such charges in the event of a traffic accident will instantly cut off entire sections of cables going to the battery pack. As a result, the car will be completely de-energized.

Explosive packages can be activated by signals from various on-board sensors - for example, from airbag sensors. The CG912 microchip, which was originally designed to control the airbags, will be able to control the operation of the system.

Breaking the cables leading to the batteries will eliminate the possibility of electric shock to people and reduce the likelihood of a battery fire.
