Origin: The expression was formed on the basis of the name of the fable "Swan, Pike and Cancer" (1816) by I. L. The author of this expression is Dmitry Matveyevich Perevoshchikov (1788-1880), professor of astronomy at Moscow University, who thus characterized the language of Russian philosophical writings of the 1820s-1840s, overloaded with terms and formulations understandable only to "initiates".
