Personality cult

Stalin I.V.
Stalin I.V.

Phraseologism: Cult of personality.

Meaning: Exaltation of an individual (usually a statesman).

Origin: The expression (in its political sense) entered the Russian language after the leader of the CPSU, N.S. Khrushchev, on the night of February 24-25, 1956, made his report "On the cult of personality and its consequences" at the XX Congress of the CPSU. In this report, he condemned the violations of "socialist legality" and "norms of party life" by I.V. Stalin, the practice of praising him and turning him into almost a "living god", every word of which immediately acquired the force of law and was accepted for immediate execution . For example, the French writer André Gide wrote about the various manifestations of this cult in his book "Return from the USSR", published by him in France after he visited Soviet Russia (1936): "Images of Stalin are found at every step, his name is on everyone's lips , praise him in all speeches. In particular, in Georgia, in any dwelling, even in the most miserable, most miserable, you will certainly see a portrait of Stalin in the very place where the icon used to hang. I don’t know what it is: adoration, love, fear, but everywhere and everywhere it is." For a wide section of the country's population, the very text of Khrushchev's report remained secret for a long time. Nevertheless, after the XX Congress of the CPSU in the USSR, a massive dismantling of monuments to Stalin began, a wave of renaming of cities, enterprises and collective farms bearing the name of Stalin rose, and, most importantly, the release of political prisoners and the rehabilitation of those illegally repressed.

Random phraseology:

Sissy.

Meaning:

A pampered, infantile, little adapted to independent life boy (young man).

Origin:

The primary source is the comedy "Undergrowth" (1783) by Denis Ivanovich Fonvizin (1745-1792). The landowner Skotinin says to Mitrofan: "Well, Mitrofanushka! You, I see, are a mother's son, not a father!"

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Portable tomograph for rats 21.10.2004

The rat is too mobile an animal to be able to study the work of its brain with the help of a tomograph.

It is impossible to apply rigid fixation or immobilizing chemicals: the picture of brain activity will be distorted. Therefore, a portable positron emission tomograph for rats was made at the Brookhaven National Laboratory (USA).

The "collar" contains radiation detectors. The rat is injected with radiolabeled glucose into the blood, and sensors determine which areas of the brain use this energy source when the animals perform various tasks.
