Who lives happily, freely in Russia?

Nekrasov N.A.
Nekrasov N.A.

Phraseologism: Who lives happily, freely in Russia?

Meaning: About all kinds of sociological research, polls, their results, etc.

Origin: From the Prologue of the poem "To whom it is good to live in Russia" (1863-1876) by N. A. Nekrasov (1821-1877).

Random phraseology:

Die, Denis, you can't write better.

Meaning:

The highest praise of talent (iron.).

Origin:

From the legend about the reaction of Prince Grigory Potemkin to the comedy "Undergrowth" by Denis Fonvizin. So, according to Prince Peter Vyazemsky, this favorite of Catherine II allegedly told the author of the comedy after her first performance (1782): "Die, Denis, or write nothing more" (Vyazemsky P. A. Poli. collected. Op. T. V. SPb., 1880). And in the journal "Russian Messenger" (1808. No. 8), this phrase was given in the following version: "Die now, Denis, or at least do not write anything else: your name will be immortal from this one play." However, as follows from many studies on the history of Russian literature, this legend has no real basis. Prince Potemkin was not at the premiere of The Undergrowth in St. Petersburg (he was at that time in the south of Russia), and he did not treat D. I. Fonvizin very favorably, so such an enthusiastic reaction on his part seems very unlikely.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Laser ignition 15.01.2012

Engineers from the Romanian Institute of Laser, Plasma and Radiation Physics and two Japanese companies have created an automotive spark plug using a three-beam ceramic laser. It gives flashes with a duration of 0,8 nanoseconds at a frequency of up to a hundred per second. Three beams cause flashes of a combustible mixture at three points of the cylinder at once.

Laser ignition provides a more complete combustion of the mixture with less harmful emissions. In addition, the electrodes of the candle do not burn - they simply do not exist. While the laser candle is somewhat longer than usual, the developers intend to reduce it.

Toyota has already become interested in the new ignition system.
