Phraseologism: To whom is a donut, and to whom is a hole from a donut.

Meaning: About the unfair division of something.

Origin: An inaccurate quote from the play "Mystery Buff" (1918) by Vladimir Vladimirovich Mayakovsky (1893-1930): "Why are you boiling? // We promised and we divide equally: // one - a bagel, the other a donut hole. // This is a democratic republic ".

Random phraseology:

Climb on the rampage.

Meaning:

To undertake something deliberately risky, doomed to failure.

Origin:

The outdated word "rozhon" refers to a pointed stake (horn), which was used when hunting a bear. The enraged beast climbed on the rampage - a wide knife, sharpened on both sides, on a long stick with a crossbar under the blade, which the bear himself grabbed.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Rescue humanoid robot 14.10.2017

Honda has unveiled a prototype of the E2-DR robot, which is expected to be used for disaster relief.

The E2-DR can rotate its "torso" 180 degrees, can be grabbed by its "hands", which, in particular, allows it to climb stairs. The robot walks at a speed of 2 kilometers per hour; he is able to step over obstacles, walk over debris, and walk in heavy rain for 20 minutes.
