Ancient Greek and Roman mythology
Ancient Greek and Roman mythology

Phraseologism: Sink into oblivion.

Meaning: 1. Disappear without a trace and forever, go into oblivion (about a person), 2. be forever forgotten, consigned to oblivion (about events, facts, memories) (book).

Origin: The expression goes back to Greek mythology, where Lethe is the river of oblivion in the underworld kingdom of Hades, the kingdom of the dead. Washing themselves with the waters of this river or drinking from it, the dead forgot about their earthly life.

Random phraseology:

Trumpet of Jericho.

Meaning:

Deafening, unusually loud voice (disapproved). Hence the expression "trumpet voice (voice)".

Origin:

From the Bible. The Old Testament (Book of Joshua, 6) tells of the siege of the Jews returning from Egyptian captivity to Palestine, the city of Jericho, which stood in their way. They besieged it for six days, and it is not known how long the standing under the walls of this fortress would have lasted, if not for a miracle. On the seventh day, the priests of the Jews began to walk around the walls of the city, blowing trumpets. And from their sound the walls suddenly collapsed.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>
