Nothing comes out of nothing

Titus Lucretius Kar
Titus Lucretius Kar

Phraseologism: Nothing will come out of nothing.

Meaning: One should not expect any results if no efforts have been made to achieve them, in other words, zero labor (investments of any kind) - zero results (jokingly ironic)

Origin: From Latin: Ex nihilo nihil fit. The words of the ancient Roman poet-philosopher Lucretius (98-55 BC), contained in his work "The Nature of Things", in the 1st and 2nd books. The very same idea was borrowed by him from the ancient authors (Epicurus, Melissa, Empedocles), who said that "nothing can come of the non-existent." There is a variant of this expression in the work "Discourse about oneself" by the Roman thinker, Emperor Marcus Aurelius (121-180): "Nothing comes out of nothing, just as nothing passes into nothing." Often this expression is found in lapidary form: "De nihilo nihil", that is, "out of nothing - nothing."

Random phraseology:

Creeble-crable-booms.

Meaning:

Phrase-symbol of a miracle, magic, magical transformation (jokingly).

Origin:

The storyteller's spell from the fairy tale play "The Snow Queen" (1938), written by the Soviet playwright Yevgeny Lvovich Schwartz (1896-1958) based on the fairy tale "The Snow Queen" by Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875). There is no such spell in the work of the Danish writer.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. The world's fastest internet network 02.01.2015

US Internet has commercialized the world's fastest broadband Internet access network.

The system is said to provide data transfer rates up to 10 Gbps. This is an order of magnitude more than the bandwidth of the Google Fiber network, which allows you to download information at speeds up to 1 Gb / s.

The US Internet network is currently operating only in Minneapolis (Minnesota). Obviously, a 10-gigabit data link is hardly necessary for ordinary home users. In addition, the monthly subscription fee is $400. But the high-speed US Internet network may be required by Internet companies and small and medium-sized businesses using the SaaS (software as a service) model, when the supplier develops a web application and independently manages it, providing the customer with access to software resources over the Internet.

Note that, according to a recent study, the highest average Internet access speed was recorded in Hong Kong - 72,49 Mbps. The US is in 31st place in the ranking with a score of 20,77 Mbps.
