  • If you want to live without knowing sorrow, consider the future past.
  • If you want to learn, be prepared to be considered a fool and a dumbass.
  • If you want to be spoken well of you, do not speak badly of others.
  • Life is short, but honest, always prefer life long, but shameful.
  • Envy is the enemy of the happy.
  • Know and remember that if a person is unhappy, then he himself is to blame, because God created all people for their happiness, and not for them to be unhappy.
  • Avoid the friendship of bad people and the enmity of good people.
  • When we were children, our parents entrusted us to an educator who vigilantly watched so that no harm would happen to us. We have grown up - and God has entrusted our innate conscience to protect us. Let us not treat this guard with contempt, otherwise God will be angry with us, and our own conscience will see us as its enemies.
  • When one young braggart said in the theater that he was smart, because he talked with many philosophers, Epictetus remarked to him: "Here, I have many rich acquaintances, but still I am not a rich man!"
  • When Pittacus asked Solon, who was silent at the table, why he did not speak - whether because he did not find a subject for conversation, or out of stupidity, he received the answer: "No fool can be silent at the table."
  • When the owner of the ship, Lampida, was asked what it was like to acquire wealth, he replied: "Great wealth is easy, but small money is very difficult."
  • When Epictetus was asked, "Which man is rich?" - he answered: "Satisfied with himself."
  • When, closing the door behind you, you are left alone in your house, do not say that you are alone: for you are not alone, God and your soul are with you.
  • Whoever is free in body and not free in soul is a slave, and, in turn, whoever is bound bodily, but free spiritually, is free.
  • It is better to live with one person of high soul and be calm and independent than to lead a miserable life in the company of many.
  • It is better to know how to practice virtue than to know how to describe it.

  • Freedom is the independence of thought.
  • Ask yourself what do you want - wealth or happiness? If wealth - know that it is neither good nor in your hands, if happiness - be sure that it is both good and in your power: the first fate lends us only for a while, while being happy depends on ourselves.
  • Quarreling and arguing is generally impolite, but especially indecent - in conversations over a drink. After all, a drunkard still cannot convince a sober one, just as a sober person cannot persuade a drunkard, and where all persuasion is in vain, there is no need to use all your eloquence.
  • Try to leave behind you children better educated than rich: the hopes of the educated are more enviable than the rich ignoramuses.
  • Fate is a dark prison for the body and evil for the soul.
  • There is only one way to happiness - to stop worrying about things that are not subject to our will.
  • Happiness, like autumn fruits, should be plucked on time.
  • The wise man fights passion, the fool becomes its slave.
  • What you do not wish for yourself, do not wish for others, you do not like to be a slave - do not turn others into slavery. Since you cannot do without the services of slaves, you are, first of all, a slave yourself - just as virtue and vice do not coexist with each other, so do freedom and slavery.
  • What you should not do, do not do even in your thoughts.
  • A person with free will cannot be called a slave.
  • The rarer the pleasures, the more pleasant they are.
  • In order for the sun to rise, there is no need for prayers or spells, no, it suddenly begins to send its rays to the joy of everyone, so do not expect either applause, noise, or praise to do good - do good deeds voluntarily - and you will be loved like the sun.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

Nanoparticles in silk 25.10.2009

Chemists from the USA have learned how to encrust silk with silver nanoparticles. Precious metal ions have the ability to precipitate from solution on biological fibers and recover to pure metal, forming nanoparticles associated with these fibers. In this case, it is possible to solve two problems: to prevent nanoparticles from sticking together and to evenly distribute them over the volume or surface of the material.

It was this ability of theirs that scientists from the Georgia Institute of Technology, led by Professor Vladimir Tsukryuk, took advantage of. They dissolved silkworm cocoons and the resulting solution was applied as a thin film on a silicon substrate. Then, a template pattern was drawn on it by nanolithography and placed in a solution containing silver ions.

After a few days or even weeks, nanoparticles were deposited on the silk, and a flexible elastic film of the composite was obtained with a thickness of only 100 nm. Its obvious use is a bactericidal dressing, containing, although an insignificant amount of silver, but this does not lose its effectiveness.

However, the authors believe that it can be used to make flexible mirrors that reflect light at a certain wavelength, as well as self-cleaning coatings, catalysts, and possibly flexible batteries. “If we mix proteins that can combine with both gold and silver, then it will be possible to obtain a composite of nanoparticles of the two metals. Since their properties differ, this will be a very interesting material,” says Yevgenia Kharlampieva, a participant in the work.
