Friedrich von Hayek. The most famous aphorisms

  • Majority votes can make decisions when the choice is limited to a certain alternative, but it does not follow from anywhere that there should be a definite majority opinion on all issues.
  • The power of the skillful propagandist is so great that he can give human thought any desired form, and even the most developed, the most independent in their views, people cannot completely escape this influence if they are isolated for a long time from all other sources of information.
  • Outside the sphere of personal responsibility, there is neither good nor evil, no opportunity to show your high moral qualities, no chance to prove the strength of your convictions, sacrificing your own desires for what you think is right. Only when we ourselves are responsible for our own interests and are free to sacrifice them at will, does our decision have moral value.
  • All propaganda serves one and the same purpose, and each of its tools and the whole apparatus is organized in such a way as to influence people in a coordinated way in one direction and ultimately achieve a complete unification of all minds.
  • Money is one of the greatest tools for gaining freedom, invented by man.
  • Competition cannot in any way be connected with planning without weakening it as a factor of production.
  • It is common for people - and this is almost a law of human nature - to converge more quickly and easily on a negative program, on hatred of enemies, on envy of those who live better, than on any positive, constructive task.
  • The largest number of people can only be united by the smallest common denominator.
  • Not all good people are necessarily democrats.
  • Planning entails conscious discrimination in relation to the needs of different people, expressed in practice in the fact that one person is allowed to do what another is forbidden.
  • The pursuit of profit is the only way people can satisfy the needs of those they don't know at all.
  • Under the rule of a homogenous and doctrinaire majority, a democracy can be no less tyrannical than the worst of dictatorships.
  • Where there is one common, overwhelming goal, there is no room for any general rules and ethical norms.
  • The higher the mental abilities and the level of education of individuals, the sharper their tastes and views differ and the less likely they are to unanimously accept any particular hierarchy of values.

Latest news of science and technology, new electronics:

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>
