Wystan Hugh Auden. The most famous aphorisms

  • As readers, we sometimes remind ourselves of those boys who paint mustaches on girls in advertising images.
  • In literature, vulgarity is preferable to insignificance, because even the cheapest port wine is better than tap water.
  • The impression of yourself never coincides with the opinion of others about you.
  • Every hero is mortal until he dies.
  • Geniuses are the happiest of mortals, because what they have to do is exactly the same as what they most want to do.
  • The only Greek god who does anything is Hephaestus, and even he is a lame cuckold.
  • If two people meet and talk, then the purpose of this conversation is not to exchange information or evoke emotions, but to hide behind words that emptiness, silence and loneliness in which a person exists.
  • Health is not the subject of medicine, and holiness is not the subject of theology.
  • The interests of the writer and the reader never coincide - except perhaps by a lucky coincidence.
  • When some idiot tells me that he liked my poem, I feel like I've reached into his pocket.
  • There are no smart operas, because people don't sing aloud in a loud voice when they are in their right mind.
  • An unimaginable number of Americans are engaged in work that seems boring to them. Even the rich man believes that he simply needs to go downstairs to the office every morning. Not because he likes it, but because he doesn't know what else to do.
  • Some books are undeservedly forgotten, but none are undeservedly remembered.
  • There is nothing worse than a bad poem that was meant to be great.
  • The father of the poem is the poet, the mother is the language.
  • The professor is the one who broadcasts in someone else's dream.
  • The hare is happy in the morning, for it is not given to him to know with what thoughts the hunter woke up.
  • The crowd does not love itself, nor everything that is outside of it.
  • Each person has his own distinctive smell, by which his wife, children, dogs recognize him. The crowd has a common, always equally bad smell. The audience is completely devoid of smell.
  • Man is a history-making being who can neither repeat his past nor get rid of it.
  • Readers can change the writer as much as they like, but the writer must always be faithful to the reader.
  • To join the crowd, it is not at all necessary to go outside - it is enough, while sitting at home, to open a newspaper or turn on the TV.
  • I do not understand why it is considered shameful to write for mass publications. As long as they don't interfere with your texts, of course. Of course, they can change a couple of words to make the text more understandable. It doesn't solve anything. But when they ask you to change the direction of your thoughts, this is already prostitution.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

WD has created the thinnest hard drive 13.09.2012

Western Digital has announced the start of trial samples of 2,5-inch hard drives with a thickness of 5 mm. The press service of the company said that this is the world's thinnest hard drive.

The standard thickness of a laptop hard drive is 9,5mm. The WD hard drive allows you to equip ultrabooks with a capacity of up to 500 GB, taking up almost 50% less space compared to modern drives.

The device is of a hybrid type - it combines traditional magnetic platters and NAND flash memory with a multi-level cell structure. The most frequently accessed data is stored in NAND. All files stored in flash memory are backed up on magnetic platters. The result is increased speed without sacrificing reliability.

The company did not say how much the drive costs and when it plans to start its serial deliveries. Asustek and Acer are planning to take advantage of the offer first.

"Mobile devices are getting smaller, thinner and more responsive," said Matt Rutledge, VP of Customer Solutions at WD. performance and economy." The company emphasized that the new devices are suitable for the thinnest ultrabooks on the market.
